Welcome to all who honor our Returning Warriors!
For the fourth consecutive year our community, Keowee Key in Salem, SC, is hosting a “Rest & Relax”(R&R) for returning Marine warriors from the Marine Special Operations Command (MARSOC) based in Camp Lejeune, NC and the South Carolina Wounded Warriors Regiment. Once again we want to ensure that the reception they receive is filled with "Shock and Awe" as more than one Marine described it in the past.
An important and critical aspect of last year's success was the enormous support we received from motorcyclists, throughout the area, who volunteered their time and effort to recognize the sacrifices of these Marines with a patriotic motorcycle escort. We were honored last year to have slightly more than 400 motorcycles escort the Marines through the full length of the parade route. Let’s have them and all the folks along the parade route hear the THUNDER and see the patriotic flags on our bikes in honor of these special MARSOC Marines and SC’s own Wounded Warriors.
The Escort will again leave from the Red Owens Recreation Center in Easley S.C. at 2:30 pm. We will mount up at 2:15 pm. It is expected the Marines will
arrive at 1:30 pm so that you will have a chance to greet, meet and thank them for their service. Music will begin at 12:30 pm by Dave’s Gone Coastal so come early and enjoy the entertainment.
When we leave, one half of the bikers will lead the way followed by the Patriot Guard, a military Humvee, the Marines in 20 Jeeps provided by the Upstate Legends Jeep Club, a second Humvee and then the other half of the bikers.
We will leave Red Owens riding out of the rear exit, go through the communities of Easley, turn left and enter Route 123 at the intersection by the Rock Springs Baptist Church and the new Walmart heading south. The next turn will occur at the Ross Ave. exit (the next exit after Routes 8/135) following the sign for Route 93 toward Liberty and Norris. From there we will travel on Route 93 through Liberty, Norris, Central and Clemson. After we pass through Clemson, the ride will turn left back onto Route 123 west of Clemson and continue to Seneca. The next turn will be a left on Route 28 into the town of Seneca where we will pick up Route 130 cross over Route123 (this is a loop through Seneca) and follow it to the north entrance of Keowee Key. We will ride through Keowee Key and leave by the south entrance turning left on Route 183 back to Route 130 and on to the Tiki Hut for a free meal and music provided by Steven Waddell, or return home. The Humvees and the Jeeps from the Upstate Legends Jeep Club will enter The Duke World of Energy where the Marines will meet their hosts.
We thank you for your support and effort to make this and extra special event
honoring our heroes.
